FAQs

How much does a website cost?

I get asked this question a lot not just by clients but by friends and family who are curious to know the in’s and out’s of web design.

My response is always the same, it depends!

Like most products and services in life web design isn’t a one size fits all solution. There are a number of factors that come into play when determining how much a website is going to cost. I’ve outlined a few of these below:

  • How big is your business and the services that you offer? This can increase the size of your website including the amount of sections, pages and elements. The bigger the size the longer it takes to design and build a website. So size really does matter!

  • Have you already got content created for your website? This links into the above point. If you need content created this again takes more time and time is money. Just Freelance aren’t copy write experts but we do know how to string some words together to make your business shine.

  • Do you need other extensions included such as e-commerce or a scheduling service? Extensions or add-on’s can be complex to design and a bit more time consuming. They also require additional monthly subscription fees that push your monthly servicing fee up.

These are just a few of the more common points to factor in if you’re thinking about getting a website built.

As a guide, if you were looking at a simple portfolio style website to showcase your service offerings only without any bells and whistles you’d be looking at a design cost of approx. $600 - $1000. This doesn’t include your administrative costs for launching and maintaining your website online.

What other costs do I need to consider?

Websites don’t launch or stay in orbit by themselves. You need a host or service provider to allocate you a domain name and to keep it floating around on the world wide web.

Just Freelance don’t provide hosting services but we will assist you with setting up your domain and hosting. Costs do vary between service providers but my provider of choice is Squarespace.

Isn’t squarespace just a website that I can use to build a website myself using their templates?

Squarespace does offer the service of providing basic website templates for users to build a website themselves. I don’t use squarespace for this service, I use it for it’s user friendly content management system (CMS) and its one stop shop functionality for my design business & clients.

With squarespace, I custom design websites from the ground up (not using a template) and utilise their amazing platform to integrate features such as e-commerce and mail chimp, setup client accounts, transfer ownership and enable client self-management via their user friendly CMS.

I’ve taken many approaches to designing websites in the past including coding from scratch and WordPress but for me squarespace is a stand out.

“I just love how easy it is for me to log on and make changes to my own website without having to know about complex code. I can even access via the squarespace app to do it.”
